This is how it’s gonna work…The following are some of my journal entries something from each month. Enjoy your gift of… A Partridge in a Pear Tree…
First Day of Christmas
1-23-2010
Wow, days are already blending together. Today was so amazing we had more missionary directed time so we were able to practice Lesson 1 before we had to go teach it. We did role play for the afternoon. I had the whole thing memorized and neither Sis Kallas or myself looked at our PMG the entire time!! Later that night we then heard from Bro Robinson. He’s cool and a way good teacher. He talked about 2 of his uncles who basically threw their mission down the tube and we talked about how missionaries are called of God. “Don’t sacrifice what you want most, for what you want now.” –Elder Karen
Second Day of Christmas
2-13-2010
First day in Lethbridge was the 10th! Kind of over-whelming, taught the first lesson and completely bombed it!! But oh well. Since then I’ve taught plenty of lessons, given a church tour & have gotten to know the members really well. We are staying in Bishop Toone’s house and since we are in YSA wards most of the members are less-active. There are two people there I don’t want to forget… Weston Mitchell, he went on his mission to Indiana and didn’t know why he moved to Lethbridge. But he has a strong spirit and a good heart. He has been talking to his friends and trying to get 1 of them to meet with us this weekend! The second is Missy Cooper. We taught her lesson 3 (the Gospel of Jesus Christ) and the spirit was way strong. She started talking about how she wanted her Mom to know how much she is worth and to get her Mom to take the discussions. I shared with her the scripture in Proverbs: “For her price is far above that of rubies.” We also taught a new investigator this week. NERVE-RACKING! But AMAZING!!! My trainer is Sis. Jackson from Sandy Utah, District Leaders Elder Brinkerhoff from Oregon and Elder Howes from England, our district is Elder Lee from Minnesota, Elder Hepworth from Dallas Texas, Zone leaders are Elder Funk from Aberdeen Idaho and Elder Hass from Utah.
Third Day of Christmas
3-1-2010
Today was amazing! It was zone conference and the topic was “faith in Jesus Christ brings missionary opportunities.” President talked about how we need to act on the promptings from the Holy Ghost even if we don’t know why. So that reminded me of when we were teaching Megan the other night. I kept getting this feeling that I should ask her to stop reading and praying for one night. So I did and she said the next day that it felt like her day hadn’t ended. HELLO!! TOTAL ANSWER!
3-24-2010
Officially transfer day now. This morning I met with Katie Kortz (one of our investigators) she has like a sweet view from her apartment. The lesson went well. It was interesting to hear the Elders teach. Elder Hass started and talked about faith, I talked about repentance, one of the members talked about baptism and the Elder Funk took over. She asked questions and we answered them. It was way cool and the spirit was way strong!
Fourth Day of Christmas
4-12-2010
So today was alright. It was our first DDM’s (district meetings) as just a district. We went to go and see Scott Malmberg and it wound up that one of Elder Lee and Elder Whiting’s investigators showed up and wanted to ask us a few questions. (update: as of Dec 1, 2010 Gino got baptized in August)
So our Miracle from last week: We went to go find Justin Deschamps & his roommate Brian Wocky answers the door and the first thing he says is “How did you know?” and seriously… seminary video moment… he invites us in and says, “I have a friend upstairs that has a few questions for ya.” So we’re like… seriously? Apparently him and his friend Alex had just been having a gospel conversation so we set up an appointment to meet with him today. Bummer he couldn’t come :(
Fifth Day of Christmas
5-15-2010
One sweet thing that happened today was the ground breaking for the Calgary Temple. We also attended a baptism today for Elder Armitage and Elder Thompson.
5-18-2010
Walked in the rain, got cussed at and had an awkward dinner = Fantastic :)
Sixth Day of Christmas
6-1-2010
ZONE CONFERENCE!!!
‘Twas pretty sweet, I hate role playing though. I can’t ever think fast enough! It was all about the Atonement and the role that that plays in each of our lives. I thought about how the Atonement is to raise us up to Gods level so that way we can become like him. But in order for that to work in our lives… that’s why I’m out here, to share this wonderful experience with those who would otherwise fail this earthly “test”. I’m here for a reason, I can’t see why but there is a purpose & a way provided for us to see all that our Father has in store for us.
6-27-2010
So the other night we had dinner at Nathan & Rory Bateman’s. Rory had her brothers ex-girlfriend, Becky, over for her last night. (She’s on her way to Alaska) It just so happened to be Sis Jones’ turn to do the dinner message, I was glad cause I knew I probably wouldn’t be able to come up with a spiritual one with a non-member there. So she wound up talking about the Atonement and how it applies to us. I didn’t notice but Becky started crying in the middle of it. So then Rory walks up to us today and said that Becky had all sorts of questions. So Rory gave her a Book of Mormon and Becky requested Sis Jones email her that way she could write her and find out more!! Isn’t that freakin’ sweet?!!
Seventh Day of Christmas
7-22-2010
Countdown… less than a week till transfers. I am ready to move to a new area! Ate a way expensive dinner with Sis Layton and an 8 kilometer walk back into town. Killer!!
Eighth Day of Christmas
8-6-2010
We have had a crazy couple of days. Yesterday it was back to back lessons from 1 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and today we went and saw Verna & Lee. Things are good with Sis Kallas.
8-9-2010
So I’ve been doing a lot of thinking this past week about why I’m here and what not. I realized that the past 2 transfers I’ve been thinking about me, what can I do for me? It’s kind of ridiculous but I have been and this week I realized that it’s not about me, it’s about the Lord and the people.
Saturday we saw Verna again, we took a walk to the park. We read a few scriptures with her in Alma. (this is a good memory moment….. sorry can’t share ) lol
Ninth Day of Christmas
9-1-2010
Started out with service at the library, a lot of stop-bys and we helped the Stewarts clean and get some stuff done around the house that they are building. We also had dinner and a lesson with the Sharp’s. To top off the night we finally got to meet with Kekie Ingram and her boyfriend Matt Geisbrecht, it was so sweet! The spirit was so strong as we talked. I’ve never felt like that, ever. It was so strong and Matt and Kekie are amazing!! They gave us a tour around the ranch (they both work and live at Bar none ranches) and then we talked a little about life and the church. I was able to tell him about the reason why I asked people to be baptized. Good thing we cleared up the fact that we are not out here to just get numbers.
Tenth Day of Christmas
10-6-2010
Service, cleaning the car, then we went and saw Sis Grigor. Oh my, spirit=amazing!! That lesson was so good. The spirit was strong and a lot of what Lauren wrote in her email to her mom was so good and brought in the spirit so strong.
10-7-2010
Today we helped Sis Budreau clean walls, met Sis Forsyth, finished cleaning the car and barely made it into Calgary on time for interviews and guess what? We totally won the car award again!!! So we got the brand new Subaru Empreza (2011)… I love it!! It is the best! Interviews with President were good. I think one of the best things that happened today was going to see Diane Landry, she is wonder woman!! She was on her 18th day straight of working. She gave us Crave cupcakes and lemon meringue pie and she took down our phone numbers that way she could call our Moms and tell them how we are doing. I love her! She’s the best!!
Eleventh Day of Christmas
11-4-2010
So we had a sweet day today!! Boring actually for the most part… but we went to Bro Kutarna’s for dinner and he had invited his mate for dinner. So Dave came and we taught him lesson 1 and extended a baptismal date. It went really well. I was doing the first vision part and he asked me after I had quoted it to repeat it! The spirit was so strong!
11-13-2010
So we had to pass Dave off to the Spanish Elders and he’s totally gonna get baptized!!
11-21-2010
So dinner at the Nitschke’s tonight, it was so funny! Her Mom is German and when walked up we didn’t know it was her behind us, so after we knock she says loudly, “No! No! You ring!” and punches the doorbell a few times. Sis Riley and I were like “what the…?” Then during dinner she kept saying “Sisters don’t be shy, you need to eat! Guests first!” She forced me to eat 3 brownies. All I can say was it was hilarious!!
Twelfth Day of Christmas
Mom & Dad
December has been great but I decided not to put in another journal entry. I know that I don’t put details in any of my letters and emails so I hope that this has given you a little more insight into what has been happening this year.
I LOVE YOU!!!
I also wanted to take this opportunity to tell you how thankful I am for both of you. Thank you for everything you’ve ever done for me. Dad- thank you for your smile and being you… thank you for that time when we went to Disney World and you took us on that hover thing and I was all grumpy (that was actually a lot of fun) and thank you for scuba lessons and that day last year when we just hung out and watched movies and stuff, that was sweet. Mom- thank you for letting me vent and talk to you. Thank you for teaching me how to drive, and how to make a cake (it has come in handy) thank you for taking us to youth conferences and girls camp. And I hope you have a MERRY CHRISTMAS! And I will talk to you soon :)
